Meet Tony

Posted

I’ll save you the introduction, and let him introduce himself. Everybody, meet Tony…

Tony came to the home months ago in dire circumstances of extreme poverty. (And by extreme poverty, I do not mean eating leftovers from your fridge.) For much of his life, Tony lived in a “house” made of cardboard. You read that right…. Because of the long hours that the mother was forced to work outside of the home just to provide even the most basic of living essentials (food) for her family, the oldest sibling, Itza (twelve or thirteen at the time), was left to basically be caretaker of her five younger siblings.

Unfortunately, this is the reality facing thousands of families and children in Juarez—Iztayanna, Paola, Viridiana, Ulises, Danna and little Tony included.

Fortunately, there’s a place for kids like Tony and his five siblings to go.
A place where Christ is center.
A place of hope and joy.
A place to receive an education, to dance and to laugh with friends….to be a kid again.
And that’s the Emmanuel Children’s Home. If you’re not familiar with the home and all the amazing things they do, get familiar with it. Seriously. (www.emmanuelgo.org) When I hear stories of families who have threats on their life and are thus contemplating whether or not to leave the city but choose to stay because of the refuge that the Emmanuel Children’s Home is for their kids, I stand in shock. (True story, by the way!) This home is a refuge. They do incredible things. But they need the support of individuals like you and me to help make it happen.

Tony is in need of sponsors. Tony is in need of individuals who can commit to $30 a month to help provide everything he needs to be at the home. For such a small price, you can have such an integral component in supporting the home. For such a small price, you can be part of the extended family that is Jesus to him. Loves him like Jesus loves him and walks with him like Jesus walks with him.
And sponsoring doesn’t mean sending a check once a month or enrolling in auto-pay. It is a two-way relationship that is built between you and your sponsored child. It is laughing with them during the good times, and crying with them during the bad. Celebrating with them during their birthdays and sending a pat-on-the-back encouragement 1300 miles away when they pass 1st grade. It is built on sincere communication, love and prayer. Speaking firsthand, it is fulfilling. For more information about sponsoring Tony, please email Keren Lopez at sponsor@emmanuelgo.org.

Tony needs you. Question is: who will step up?

Blessed are the poor in spirit,  for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are those who mourn,  for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.  Blessed are the merciful,  for they will be shown mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart,  for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.  Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3-10)
